Accompanying Persons Programme

MONDAY 26th of August: Full day tour: 9h00 - 18h00 (lunch included) in Brussels

THEME ‘CULTURAL MISHMASH’

We meet at the ICC conference centre. From there we walk to the railway station to take the train to Brussels.
Before and around noon we make a culinary and multicultural tour in Matongé, Brussels’ African neighborhood. We will visit three restaurants where we will taste some typical dishes. Between stops, a guide will be revealing some interesting anecdotes and stories about the city.
In the afternoon the classics are on our agenda: the Grote Markt/Grand Marché and many highlights in the city centre. A visit to Manneken-Pis is of course mandatory.
In case the weather is below expectations, we will visit the Comic Museum, where the group will learn about Tintin and other world famous comic figures invented in Belgium. The building has been designed by Victor Horta and is a must-see for architecture lovers.
In the afternoon we have a break with coffee/tea. After all the fun we take the train back to Ghent.

TUESDAY 27th August: Full day tour: 9h00 - 18h00 (lunch included) in Ghent

THEME ‘ARTSHIZZLE’

The meeting place is the entrance hall of the Museum for Fine Arts (MSK).
Before noon we visit the museum with Artshizzle: an innovative museum tour that shows a different side of art, using the artworks as a starting point for creative, fun assignments that will strengthen the group bonds.
For lunch we grab a picnic in the beautiful Citadel park.
In the afternoon we take a walk to the city centre and will visit the world famous Ghent Altarpiece and the Castle of the Counts. We take a break at an ice cream salon.

WEDNESDAY 28th August: Full day tour: 9h00 - 17h30 (lunch included) in Bruges

THEME ‘ROMANCE & CONTROVERSY’

Meeting point is at the ICC conference centre. From there we walk to the railway station to take the train to Bruges.
We have a short walk around the Lake of Love (Minnewater), the perfect scenery for some romantic stories. Then, we visit the Concert building, an icon of contemporary architecture in the rather conservative Bruges. There is an interactive sound installation and from the rooftop terrace you get a unique view: the perfect warm-up for the afternoon!
At noon we take lunch in the Concert building café.
In the afternoon we will join a guided tour to show the highlights of the city, including the world’s only Michelangelo outside of Italy.
We then visit chocolate maker Dominique Persoone, where we get a praline tasting and some chocolates as a present. And of course there is some time to buy extra souvenirs for friends or family.
After a full day, we take the train back to Ghent.
