Technical tours

The number of participants is limited to 50 persons (1 bus) for the Horse & Goat tour, the Aquaculture and Insects tour and the Meat breeds tour; for the Nuscience and ILVO tour maximum 100 persons (2 buses) may register. The list of participants will be filled in order of payment!

Horse and Goat tour

  • Destination: Caprinehoeve (Gits) and Keros nv (Passendale)
  • Friday 30 August, from 8.30 to 16.30 h
  • Total distance: 155 km

In short: We will depart from ICC and drive to the Caprinehoeve (66 km), where we will visit a dairy goat farm. After lunch we are heading to Keros NV (15 km), where we will visit the embryo transfer center for horses and receive information about their activities in the area of horse breeding, namely artificial insemination and embryo transfer. Then we return to ICC (74 km).

Aquaculture and Insects tour

  • Destination: Inagro (Rumbeke-Beitem) and Aqua4C & Tomato Masters (Kruishoutem)
  • Friday 30 August, from 8.30 to 16.15 h
  • Total distance: 140 km

In short: We will depart from ICC (Ghent) and drive to Inagro (66 km), where the group will be split in two. One group starts a guided tour through the aquaculture division (growth of zander), followed by a tour through the insect rearing facilities (meal worm, black soldier fly and cockroach); the other group visits both divisions in the reverse way. After lunch, we will drive to Kruishoutem (48 km) to visit the collaborating companies Aqua4C where omega perch is grown and Tomato Masters. Then, we return to ICC (24 km).

Nuscience and ILVO tour

  • Destination: Dairy farm, Nuscience (Factory of the future 2017) and ILVO Animal Sciences (Melle)
  • Friday, 30 August, from 8.00 to 17.00 h
  • Total distance: ± 75 km

In short: We will depart from ICC and first bring a short visit to a dairy farm in Lokeren. From there we drive to Nuscience in Drongen (11 km) for a general introduction of the company, before we go out for a guided tour through their feed factory. After lunch we are heading to ILVO in Melle (16 km) where we will visit the experimental dairy research barn and receive information on the research in the animal husbandry domain (pigs, poultry, cattle). Then we return to ICC (15 km).

Belgian meat breeds tour

  • Destination: The province of Liège
  • Time: Friday, 30 August, from 08.00 to 18.30 h
  • Total distance: 350 km

In short: We leave at the congress centre at 8.00 h and drive to the province of Liège, in the south-east of Belgium. We first pay a visit to the porcine insemination center in Argenteau (CIAP), which is home to about 30 boars. After lunch we are heading to Waleffes, to pay a visit to a typical Belgian Blue farm. We expect to be back around 18.30 h.
